About the project
At a townhouse in Belgravia, we built a standalone cinema room in the basement. The space included mood lighting and automated curtains as well as well as a state-of-the-art cinematic experience.
The client initially wanted a large T.V. with surround sound because he thought this was the best way to watch films and live sport. However, after a visit to the showroom he changed his mind and went for a projector and screen combination.
The main consideration for the build was to get the projector and 3 metre screen aligned in the space that was available in the basement of the property. In addition, the client wanted the luxurious reveal with automated curtains
Our home automation solution
To replicate the cinematic experience of the showroom we chose the MK speaker system which the client thought was a much ‘richer sound’ than the other combinations of speakers
and subwoofers. This included 3 speakers at the front, two in the middle overhead, two at the sides and two at the rear. These were accompanied by 2 subs at the front.
To complete the experience, we fitted a Lutron control system for the lighting automationand a somfy motor for the ‘Graud Curtain Reveal’.

- A thee-metre 2.3 acoustically transparent screen
The carefully landscaped garden also forms part of the lighting control system, with strategically placed and well-hidden lights. The control function also serves to operate the window treatments, blinds, the gate intercom and CCTV system.
The entire family have found the system very easy to use, happy that it enhances their enjoyment of the dream home they have built.
The results
We are really proud of the cinema room that we have achieved and importantly so is the client, who has been involved every step of the way. The client’s decision to go with two rows of seating instead of the setees gives it that ‘going to the cinema’ look and feel.
